3-Day Issyk-Kul & Chon Kemin: Eagle Show, Horse Ride & Yurt Stay
Discover Kyrgyzstan’s winter magic on this 3-day journey that combines snowy mountains, rich Silk Road history, and authentic nomadic traditions. You will explore the frozen beauty of Ala Archa National Park, climb the ancient Burana Tower, hike in two of the country’s most picturesque canyons — Kok Moynok and Skazka, enjoy horse riding in the winter valleys of Chon Kemin, visit the frozen waterfall in Barskoon Gorge, and watch a powerful eagle hunting show. Warm guesthouses, cozy yurts, and homemade meals make this adventure both comfortable and unforgettable.
The trip continues with some of the most beautiful natural sites in the region. Kok Moynok Canyons, located on the way to Bokonbaevo, impress with their colorful rock walls and dramatic formations — and the best part is that the walk requires almost no physical effort. Skazka Canyon offers bright red cliffs and natural shapes that look even more magical under winter snow. In Barskoon Gorge, you will visit a frozen waterfall surrounded by fir trees and mountain peaks. Your winter adventure ends with a private eagle hunting demonstration, where you will see the ancient bond between hunter and golden eagle — a tradition passed down through generations. A night in a heated lakeside yurt completes the experience, giving you a peaceful winter atmosphere by the shores of Issyk-Kul.
Day 1:
Bishkek – Ala Archa National Park - Burana Tower – Chon-Kemin National Park
Your winter adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Bishkek. We head to Ala Archa National Park, where fresh mountain air, snow-covered trees, and frozen rivers create a magical winter scene. Here you will also have a fun experience feeding friendly squirrels and birds, a favorite activity among visitors. Enjoy an easy walk through the forest before we continue our journey.
Next, we visit the historical Burana Tower, a 9th-century minaret from the ancient Silk Road city of Balasagun. Climb to the top for a panoramic winter view, explore the small museum, and walk among the Balbals — ancient stone figures carved by nomads.
In the afternoon, we drive to Chon Kemin National Park. Upon arrival, we check into a warm and cozy family guesthouse with private rooms and hot showers. Enjoy a homemade dinner and relax for the night in a peaceful winter valley.
DAY 3:
Bokobaevo – Skazka Canyon – Barskoon Waterfall – Bishkek
After breakfast, we visit Skazka Canyon for a relaxed 1-hour walk. The red rocks and natural shapes look beautiful against the white winter snow, offering great photography spots and easy walking.
We continue to the Barskoon Gorge, famous for its winter landscapes and frozen waterfall. A short walk leads to the waterfall viewpoint, where you can enjoy the silence, mountain air, and beautiful ice formations.
Lunch will be enjoyed on the way back to Bishkek, as we drive along the south shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.
We arrive in the evening with unforgettable memories of winter mountains, horse riding, canyons, and nomadic traditions.
