2-Day Issyk-Kul Winter Tour:
Yurt Stay, Canyons & Eagle Show
This private 2-day winter journey around Issyk-Kul Lake is designed for travelers who want a mix of culture, nature, and authentic Kyrgyz experiences. You’ll explore Silk Road history at the ancient Burana Tower, hike through two of the region’s most famous canyons — Konorchek and Skazka — enjoy an optional horseback ride along the snowy shoreline of Issyk-Kul, witness a traditional eagle hunting show, and, if time allows, visit the beautiful frozen waterfall in Barskoon Gorge. With an overnight stay in a warm, heated yurt and private transport throughout the trip, this tour offers the perfect balance of adventure and comfort.
In winter, Issyk-Kul transforms into a peaceful and magical landscape surrounded by white mountain peaks. The lake’s name translates to “Hot Lake”, as it never freezes even during the coldest months, thanks to its great depth and mineral-rich water. This creates a striking winter view — deep blue water framed by snow-covered Tien-Shan mountains. The dramatic red rocks of Konorchek and the golden formations of Skazka Canyon look especially impressive against the winter snow, making them ideal spots for scenic walks and photography.
Your overnight stay in a traditional heated yurt adds a warm cultural touch to the journey. Here, you can enjoy home-cooked meals, relax in a cozy setting, and learn more about nomadic traditions. The eagle hunting show also brings a unique cultural experience to the tour — it adds both excitement and a memorable insight into Kyrgyz heritage, as you watch a skilled hunter demonstrate ancient techniques passed down through generations. With a friendly guide, comfortable transport, and a route designed especially for winter, this tour is a beautiful way to experience the natural and cultural highlights of Kyrgyzstan.
DAY 1
Bishkek - Burana Tower - Konorchek Canyon - Bokonbayevo (280km - 4 hours drive)
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 AM, and you will start driving toward Issyk-Kul Lake. As you leave Bishkek, you will see snowy mountains and wide winter landscapes. Your guide will explain the plan for the day and take care of your comfort and safety throughout the trip.
Your first stop is Burana Tower, an important historical site from the Silk Road. You will visit the small museum, walk among the old stone balbals, explore the area, and climb the tower for beautiful views of the Chui Valley and Tien-Shan mountains.
After Burana, you will continue toward the Boom Gorge. Here you will stop for hot tea from a samovar, fresh kattama bread, and some snacks — a warm and tasty break before the hike.
Next, you will start your 2–3 hour hike in Konorchek Canyon. Your guide will lead you through the canyon and help you on the trail. The bright red rocks mixed with winter snow create stunning views, and you will reach a nice viewpoint for photos and a short rest.
By late afternoon, you will arrive at your warm yurt camp on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul. After settling in, you will enjoy one of the highlights of the trip — a traditional eagle hunting show(upon request) with a professional hunter. Many guests say this is the most unforgettable experience of the whole journey.
In the evening, you will have a delicious home-cooked dinner in the dining yurt and then rest in your heated private yurt.
