3-Day Issyk-Kul & Chon Kemin: Eagle Show, Horse Ride & Yurt Stay
Eagles, mountains, yurts
the real Kyrgyzstan in three days.
Discover some of the best places to visit in Kyrgyzstan on this fully private 3-day journey through the country’s most beautiful natural and cultural highlights. Travel from Bishkek to the ancient Burana Tower, a historic Silk Road monument over 1,000 years old, before riding horseback through the peaceful alpine landscapes of Chon-Kemin National Park, one of Kyrgyzstan’s top horse-riding destinations.

Continue toward the stunning south shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, the world’s second-largest alpine lake, famous for its crystal-clear waters and dramatic mountain scenery. Along the way, hike through colorful canyon landscapes, experience a traditional eagle hunting show in Bokonbaevo, and spend the night in a lakeside yurt surrounded by nature. Explore the famous red rock formations of Skazka Canyon, walk through the forested mountain valley of Barskoon Gorge, and discover why this region is considered one of Central Asia’s hidden gems.

Throughout the trip, your guide creates a smooth and personal experience while sharing local stories, history, and insights at every stop.

Itinerary
Bishkek
We head towards Burana Tower, located near the small town of Tokmok, about 80 km from Bishkek, as part of our carefully designed day tours from Bishkek and cultural & historical tours in Kyrgyzstan.
Orto-Tokoy
Our journey then continues through the scenic Boom Gorge, which connects the Chui Valley with the high mountain regions on the way to Song-Kul Lake. We stop for tea and snacks at a local restaurant, a relaxing break during this unforgettable day trip tour. The next scenic stop is the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, the first reservoir ever built in the country. Surrounded by dramatic dry mountain landscapes, this location offers excellent photo opportunities and is one of the rare places where you may see camels in Kyrgyzstan.
Burana Tower
Accompanied by a professional cultural tour guide, you will explore the ancient mausoleums and archaeological remains of the medieval city of Balasagun. You will also climb to the top of the Burana Tower, enjoying panoramic views of the Chui Valley and the majestic Tien Shan Mountains. The visit continues at the open-air museum, featuring ancient gravestones, balbals, rock drawings, and other historical artifacts discovered across Kyrgyzstan—an essential experience for travelers interested in culture tours, Silk Road tours, and Central Asia tours.
After several hours on the road, we begin our exciting ascent toward Song-Kul Lake via the Kalmak-Ashuu Pass. As we gain altitude, the scenery changes dramatically—vast alpine pastures open up, where you may spot grazing yaks and the famous mountain edelweiss. This part of the route feels like a true hiking and trekking Kyrgyzstan adventure and is often considered part of the most scenic Central Asia Silk Road tours.
We arrive at Song-Kul Lake yurt camp around 5:00 PM. After check-in at the traditional yurt camp Song Kul, you can relax, take a short walk by the lake, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of high-altitude nomadic life. The evening is spent at the Song Kul yurt camp, making this experience ideal for a family tour, family group tour package, or travelers exploring the region as part of a longer 5 stans tour, 5 stans of Central Asia tour, or Silk Road tour package.

Kochkor village
Around 12:00 PM, we begin our return journey to Bishkek. The road leads through the impressive Terkey Torpok Pass, famously known as the “33 Parrots”. Rising above 3,000 meters and featuring over 30 dramatic serpentines, this mountain pass is one of the most scenic drives in the country and a true highlight of many Kyrgyzstan hiking trips and Central Asia tours.
Song Kul lake
After breakfast, we continue our journey by exploring Song-Kul Lake in more depth. The day begins with a memorable Song Kul lake horse trek, riding into the surrounding mountains to reach a small yet scenic waterfall. This experience is included as part of your authentic Kyrgyzstan horse riding adventure and offers breathtaking views along the route, perfectly combining nature and nomadic culture.
Next, we ride up to a nearby hill, where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Song-Kul Lake and discover ancient stone drawings left by early nomads. This gentle horseback journey also reflects why the Song-Kul region is often considered one of the best places to hike in Asia and a highlight of many hiking tours in Kyrgyzstan.
