Itinerary
Approx. 240 km — 5 to 6 hours of driving
Day 1
Bishkek — Burana Tower — Boom Gorge — Konorchek Canyons — Chon-Kemin National Park
Chon-Kemin National Park — Bokonbaevo — Issyk-Kul south shore
Day 2
Approx. 180 km — 4 to 5 hours of driving
Your guide picks you up from your hotel in Bishkek in the morning and introduces the plan for the day as you leave the city and head east. The first stop is Burana Tower, one of the most important historical monuments in Kyrgyzstan. Your guide walks you through the ancient site, shares the story of the old city of Balasagun, and shows you the stone balbals scattered around the complex. You can climb the tower for open views over the surrounding plains and mountains, a great first photo stop of the trip.

From here, continue through Boom Gorge, where your guide stops for tea and traditional kattama bread. It is a simple road moment, but one that gives the day a warm local feeling before the landscape becomes more dramatic.

Later, arrive at Konorchek Canyons for one of the day’s main adventures. With your guide, set out on a scenic hike through red sandstone formations shaped by wind and time. The walk usually takes around 2 to 3 hours and is moderate, with some uneven ground, but the reward is huge. Narrow passages open into wide canyon views, and the colors are especially beautiful in photos.

By evening, reach Chon-Kemin National Park. After check-in, enjoy dinner and a relaxed night surrounded by peaceful mountain scenery.

Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Guesthouse in Chon-Kemin
After breakfast, your guide meets you for one of the most memorable parts of the tour: horseback riding in Chon-Kemin. Before starting, your guide explains the basics and helps everyone feel comfortable in the saddle. The trails here work well for both beginners and more confident riders, so the experience can be adapted to your level. The ride lasts around 2 to 3 hours and takes you through open green landscapes, gentle hills, and beautiful mountain viewpoints. It is peaceful, scenic, and one of the best ways to feel the atmosphere of rural Kyrgyzstan.

After the ride, continue toward the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. The drive itself is very beautiful, with changing views of mountains, wide valleys, and the deep blue water of the lake appearing as you get closer. Your guide makes the road feel easy and interesting, with stories and local context along the way.

In Bokonbaevo, experience one of Kyrgyzstan’s most famous cultural traditions: eagle hunting. Your guide introduces the activity and helps you understand how this practice connects to nomadic life. You can watch the demonstration, learn more about the bond between hunter and bird, and take some unforgettable photos holding the eagle.

By evening, arrive at your yurt camp on the shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Settle in, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in a beautiful natural setting by the water.

Day 3
Approx. 410 km — 6 to 7 hours of driving
Your guide picks you up after breakfast and the journey continues east along the south shore of Issyk-Kul. The first major stop is Skazka Canyon, also known as Fairy Tale Canyon. This place is famous for its red and orange rock formations that look like castles, walls, and strange natural sculptures. Your guide leads you through the area and helps choose the best walking route for your group. You can keep it easy with a shorter walk or take a longer trail to a panoramic viewpoint above the canyon and lake. It is one of the strongest photo stops of the whole trip.

Next, continue to Barskoon Gorge, a greener and cooler landscape with forest, river, and mountain scenery. Your guide leads a walk toward the waterfall area, adjusting the pace depending on how active you want the day to be. The gorge is known for its fresh air, lush setting, and beautiful contrasts after the dry canyon landscapes earlier in the day.

Later, visit Jeti-Oguz, one of the classic symbols of Kyrgyzstan. Your guide shares the local legends behind the famous red rock cliffs known as the Seven Bulls. The setting is wide, open, and dramatic, with excellent views for photos and a short scenic walk.

Before reaching Karakol, stop to relax in hot springs, a perfect way to end an active day. In the evening, enjoy dinner and settle into your hotel.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel in Karakol
Karakol — Grigoriev Gorge — Semenov Gorge — Cholpon-Ata — Bishkek
Day 4
Approx. 420 km — 7 to 8 hours of driving
After breakfast, your guide begins the day with a short city tour of Karakol. This town has a very different atmosphere from the rest of the journey, with strong Russian and Dungan influences. Visit the Dungan Mosque, built in a Chinese style without nails, and the wooden Orthodox Church, one of the city’s best-known landmarks. If time and interest allow, your guide can also stop by the local market for a quick look at everyday life in Karakol.

Then begin the drive along the northern side of Issyk-Kul, passing through the beautiful Grigoriev and Semenov Gorges. These places are known for forested valleys, mountain rivers, and quiet alpine scenery. Your guide stops for lunch in a peaceful riverside setting where you can enjoy the landscape before continuing west.

In Cholpon-Ata, enjoy time by the lake with a boat ride on Issyk-Kul. In warm weather, there may also be a chance for a swim, so this is a nice final nature moment before returning to the city. After that, visit Ruh Ordo, a cultural complex by the lake, and the open-air petroglyph site where ancient rock carvings can still be seen today. Your guide explains the meaning of the site and helps bring the history of the region to life.

In the evening, return to Bishkek, where your guide drops you off at your hotel. Airport drop-off can also be arranged.
