Higher, deeper, longer. Kyrgyzstan at its best.
The 3-day Ala-Kul trek is already one of the finest trails in Kyrgyzstan. This version gives you one more day — and that extra day changes everything.

The additional time takes you deeper into Karakol Gorge and up toward the base of Karakol Peak at 5,216 metres. You won't be summiting — this is trekking, not technical mountaineering. But you will get close enough to feel the true scale of the Tien Shan: glaciers hanging off vertical walls, moraines stretching for kilometres, and air that is noticeably thinner and quieter the higher you go.

The slower pace also means better acclimatisation before the Ala-Kul crossing. By the time you reach the lake on day three, your body has had two full days at progressively higher altitude. The climb feels more manageable. The view at the top feels more yours.

Altyn Arashan on the final day remains the same finish — a long descent through a valley that warms around you, ending with natural hot springs and lunch before the vehicle takes you back to Karakol.

This tour suits travellers who want more than a quick mountain crossing. Four days at altitude, a private certified guide, genuine wilderness, and one of the great trekking routes in Central Asia — done properly, without rushing.
Camping two nights deep in the mountains with no towns, no roads, and no crowds

Day 2

Morning briefing and gear check in Karakol, then a private vehicle transfer south into the national park. The trail begins in pine forest along the Karakol River, climbing steadily through shaded gorge into open alpine meadow. Karakol Peak appears ahead for the first time — distant but already impressive. A comfortable first day of 5–6 hours walking, finishing at the lower yurt camp around 2,500m. Dinner is warm and generous. The pace is intentionally relaxed — tomorrow the terrain gets serious.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Yurt camp
The most distinctive day of this tour. After breakfast, the trail leaves the main valley and climbs toward the Karakol Peak massif — glaciated, imposing, and increasingly close. This is not a summit attempt. The route takes you to the base of the peak at around 3,400–3,600 metres, where moraines, hanging glaciers, and the sheer scale of the mountain create one of the most dramatic landscapes of the entire trek. Your guide explains the terrain and the peak's history. Late afternoon descent to high camp. Cold night, clear sky, complete silence.

Day 3
High Camp — Ala-Kul Lake
Two nights at altitude have prepared your body well. Today's climb to Ala-Kul Lake at 3,550m — the 1,100m ascent that challenges most trekkers on the 3-day version — feels more manageable with proper acclimatisation. The trail pushes through boulder fields and past the high mountain hut before the lake reveals itself completely. Deep turquoise, glacier-fed, surrounded by peaks above 4,000m. Lunch at the water's edge, afternoon at the lake, dinner at the tent camp. Sleep as close to the mountains as you will ever get.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Tent camp at the lake
A final early morning at the lake, then the 350m climb to Ala-Kul Pass at 3,906m. From the top, the full Terskey Ala-Too range stretches in every direction — the widest view of the entire four days. The descent is careful and deliberate on loose scree before the valley greens around you and Altyn Arashan comes into view below. Lunch at the guesthouse, then the natural hot springs — outdoor thermal pools surrounded by pine trees and mountain air. Private vehicle returns you to Karakol by 4:00 PM.
